The Whiskey Disc Barrel has a new home.

This year at the 2nd annual Whiskey Disc Open the weather was hot and the competition was fierce. As always, the tournament was held at Madison own Heistand Park. A challenging 18 hole course that requires a plethora of shots to master. With a good amount of elevation change and the baskets in the long the placements, this event was a marathon not a sprint.

5 GBDGA members made appearances at the Whiskey Disc this year: Doug, David, Dillon, Carver, and Nico. There were also 4 non GBDGA members that came to play and drink: Britt, Nate, Mike, and Russ.

Round 1 started with a traditional shotgun start, our group of 4 non Members lead the way followed by the 5 GBDGA players. After a grueling 2 hours in the sun and more than a few beers the scores were totaled for round 1. Nico shot the hot round, going into the second 18 with a 2 stroke lead over David, who was being closely tailed by Poppa Doug. Who was shooting extremely well considering he missed the last event!

With water, Gatorade, and some jumbo sub sandwich consumed. The groups started back up the hill to start round 2. Everyone was fully stocked with beer and mulligans. Round 2 played slower and hotter than the first. After much back and forth, David walked away with his first victory of the season! Playing a lights out round 2, he passed Nico early on in the round and proceeded to gain strokes over the back 9. Solidifying his victory.

Azko had new plans in store for our competitors

The GBDGA Competitors were in for a surprise when they arrived at the Azko Nobel course, as the layout had been completely rearranged offering new challenges. After the first 18 it looked to be another repeat victory was in the sights for Micah Wheeler, however Tommy "Hammer Throw" Purdom had other things in mind. After losing 3 discs on the first 18 Tommy strung together a magnificent final 18 with his final 3 discs in hand he delivered the two time champion his first Masters loss, earning himself the coveted Green Jacket and title of GBDGA Masters Champion.

The Founder's Cup was Smoldering

What's this itemThe temperature was hot at Elver Park, and while most players came out smoking, only one was able to ignite the flame, winning his first ever Major Title in the GBDGA. Paul Fischer was able to rise above the rest, ending Micah Wheeler's Bid for the Triple Crown and fighting off the 4 Participants who tied for runner up. With once again a new player winning a tournament this season we see a shake up in the overall standings and a new front runner for the 2017 GBDGA Toilet Bowl has emerged. With one more major and two more overall point tournaments remaining, the fight to the finish is sure to spark a flame in all. about? What makes it interesting? Team-Play Championship Saw Unlikely Victors

As we depart to the second half of the 2017 GBDGA tournament that saw ups and downs, the Team-Play Championship didn't disappoint. Due to non participation from the Leader at the time, Zach Jaraczewski, we saw the second place holder, Micah Wheeler, team up with the last place play, Mike Schneider. This unlikely team put together a wonderful team effort to accomplish winning the 2017 GBDGA Team-Play Championship, boosting Micah into the league lead and bringing Mike closer into the mix to get out of the Toilet Bowl for 2017. The Team Costume award goes to Doug Cassel and Dillon Raunio, who came dressed as Putt Pirates, see photo gallery for pictures. The second half of the season looks to bring fire to the league as we now have two majors in a row, the GBDGA Founder's Cup and the GBDGA Masters.

The Subaru Classic Comes to a Rainy Close

The Roller Coaster ride that is the 2017 GBDGA continues. As we wrapped up the 2017 Subaru Classic, we have our first repeat champion of the season. Tommy "Hammer Throw" Purdom showed his grit, fighting through the wind and rain at Grignon Park, to emerge the champion.  The participants came out with high hopes and full of spirit, rocking 2 Subaru Cross Treks to the tournament, but with the elements playing games many competitors found the challenge to be too daunting seeing miscues occur and dreams broken. The Overall Standings saw some shake ups occur, one  being a new leader atop the board, Zach Jaraczewski. With the Team-Play coming up we could see some big things happen all over the league.

Zach Jaraczewski repeats as Champion

In a tournament that saw a player break his own record and lots of ups and downs from all players, Zach Jaraczewski emerged victorious in the 2017 GBDGA Green Bay Open. This makes this two consecutive years for Zach, who had an improved score, and GBDGA course record of 89, take him to victory, also giving him sole possession of the GBDGA record of most career tournament wins. With the week of rain leading up to the Green Bay Open, the complete par 3 course at Legion Park  was unforgiving at times easily turning pars into double bogies. With a different winner taking the Green Bay Open, we once again find the overall standings shaken up, the 2017 Season looks to be a fight to the end as we move into the Subaru Classic in a couple weeks.

The First Major is in the Books

It was a brisk Saturday at Lake Liotta Park, and after starting off with a bang, spectators took offense to the GBDGA rules, calling the Cops, and putting an end to our beers. This sobering moment opened up the field for the rest of the tournament. Nico Baron had the hot first round, leading the crowd after the first 18, only to have the wind cool off him off finishing the tournament in fourth place. This was not the case for the rest of the field, all shooting better on the second 18. There was a hard fought battle that played out on the top card, and after coming up shy in the GBDGA Winter Championship, Micah Wheeler created a 4 stroke gap at the GBDGA Players Cup gaining him the exclusive right to chase the GBDGA Triple Crown in the 2017 season.  Two Tournaments in and we’ve seen two different winners, the fight for overall standing points continues to be tight and surprises will happen as we continue deeper into the 2017 GBDGA Season.

From Zero to Hero at the Winter Championship

Dreams do come true! In a hard fought tournament we saw some good play from all but one rose from the bottom to walk away at the top. The hammer toss was in full effect for the opening tourney of the 2017 GBDGA season as Tommy "Hammer Throw" Purdom proved that anyone can swim their way out of the Toilet bowl and into first place, coming away with a huge GBDGA Winter Championship. Sloppy weather forced a last minute course change, but even with a larger field, we saw all the new comers make it out for impressive first outings. Overall, it was a great start to the 2017 GBDGA Season.
